About Me

Sade Arzu, LMHC, MA, is a licensed clinical psychotherapist in the state of New York. She maintains a private practice in West Harlem, New York City, and works part-time as a psychotherapist in Metropolitan Center for Mental Health.  Ms. Arzu is also a clinical consultant to Harlem Children's Zone The Family Support Center.  Ms. Arzu received her undergraduate degree from Hunter College and her graduate degree in Mental Health Counselling from City College of New York.  Ms. Arzu also holds a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from City College.  She completed her internship and clinical training at Metropolitan Center for Mental Health and VIDA Guidance Center. 

Part of Ms. Arzu’s professional experience includes evaluating mental and emotional disorders of individuals through observation, interview, and psychological tests, and formulating and administering programs of treatment.  Ms. Arzu has strong knowledge of principles of mental health education and counseling; community organizations, resources, and allied mental health services available in the local area.  Working in multi-cultural communities, Ms. Arzu has also developed excellent ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.  She is skilled at working with adolescents and families of all needs.  Ms. Arzu has treated adolescents and adults with issues ranging from anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use/abuse, to learning differences, significant behavioral problems, and developmental disabilities.  Ms. Arzu is also a fluent Spanish and French speaker.

Ms. Arzu holds two New York University post-graduate certificates in Clinical Supervision and in Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice.  Ms. Arzu is now a clinical supervisor at Metropolitan Center for Mental Health where she continues not only to treat clients but observes, mentors, evaluates, inspires, and creates an atmosphere that promotes self-motivation, learning and professional development to her supervisees. Ms. Arzu is also part of Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP), serving as faculty and supervisor to the child and adolescent program.

 Ms. Arzu is passionate about helping others to establish goals, manage crises, connect to community resources, and develop sustainable life skills. One of her beliefs about therapy is that individuals are the “experts” of their own lives, and she seeks to live this belief by helping individuals identify internal resources and claim their own preferences and values. Ms. Arzu’s role as a clinician is that of collaborator and guide, as she hopes to empower her clients to take responsibility for themselves and their lives.
